“How might we explain how a technology
works by creating a physical experience?”

For
our school project, we ventured into the intersection of art and technology, inspired by the concept of  ultrasound—where sound waves create images. We wanted to take this scientific principle and give it a creative twist, turning sound into something visually captivating.

We named our project "Ultrasound Visualized." The core idea was to explore how our voices, something so personal and unique, could be transformed into dynamic visual art. Using creative coding, we developed a software that captured sound through a microphone and then translated it into vibrant, flowing patterns. Each wave, each shift in color, was directly influenced by the pitch, volume, and tone of the participant's voice. The result was a living, breathing artwork, uniquely crafted by the person speaking into the mic.

The experience we created was more than just a display—it was an immersive retreat. We transformed a room into a tranquil, almost meditative space, inviting participants to step away from their daily routines and engage in this sensory exploration. As they spoke into the microphone, their words and sounds were projected onto the wall, morphing into colorful waves that danced and shifted, responding to their voice in real-time.

To make the experience more engaging, we provided conversation cards. These were prompts for those who might feel hesitant or unsure of what to say, ensuring that everyone could fully participate and watch as their words blossomed into a visual spectacle.

Each interaction was deeply personal, resulting in a unique visual representation of the speaker's voice—a piece of art that existed only in that moment. "Ultrasound Visualized" wasn’t just an exploration of technology; it was about creating a connection between the intangible and the tangible, between sound and sight, showing how our voices could shape and color the world in unexpected ways.

In the end, participants didn’t just walk away with a new understanding of ultrasound—they left with a personal experience, a moment of creativity sparked by their own voice, visualized in a way that was entirely their own.

I myself created all marketing material/posters as well as the conversationcards and the decks. I together with my fellow groupmembers brainstormed and conceptualized the idea and we the realized the idea!

Like mentioned, I created all visual material such as these posters shown above. These were put up on display during out physical exhibition.

I also created the packinging (as shown below) for the conversation cards that we gave people who didn’t know what to say when speaking into the mic.
